New Arrivals Spotlight: Sintered Stone and Tempered Glass Tables Landing This Spring

by Quality Rugs & Furniture Sydney 19 Sep 2026

Spring is when our New Arrivals collection turns over the fastest, and this season's drop leans hard into two materials Sydney homes are asking for more of: sintered stone and tempered glass. Between the two Sydney showrooms at Lidcombe and Marsden Park, we've just unpacked more than a dozen new coffee, console and side tables, plus three new sofa sets, and it's worth walking through what's actually different about them before you buy — because "new stock" and "the right table for your room" aren't always the same thing.

What landed this drop

The new range splits into five families, each built around a different tabletop material and finish: Vista (sintered stone), Passage and Cipher (tempered glass), Orbit (tempered glass with a mirrored undershelf), Echo (tempered glass on a slimmer frame), and the Cannas and Totem ranges rounding out the coffee and side table sizes in between. On the seating side, three new sofa sets — Aria, Belmont and Lawson — arrived in fabric and velvet upholstery, aimed at buyers wanting a softer, more tailored lounge silhouette than last season's boxier designs.

If you only remember one thing from this post: match your new occasional tables to your existing sofa height and frame colour before you match them to each other. A glass-top coffee table next to a low-slung velvet sofa reads very differently than the same table next to a higher-backed fabric set, and that's the decision that actually affects how the room feels day to day.

Sintered stone tops: what you're actually buying

The Vista range — shelf, console and coffee table — uses sintered stone tops, which puts them in the same broader family as the engineered stone surfaces increasingly used for kitchen benchtops. Engineered stone is manufactured by binding crushed stone under heat and pressure into a dense, non-porous slab, which is what gives sintered stone its resistance to scratching, staining and heat marks — genuinely useful qualities on a coffee table that's going to see mugs, remote controls and the occasional hot dish set down without a coaster. The trade-off is weight: sintered stone tops are heavier than laminate or timber-veneer equivalents, so the Vista pieces sit on solid metal or timber bases rather than the slim tapered legs you'd see on a lighter design. That makes them a better fit for a room where the table stays put, rather than one you're rearranging every few months.

Colour-wise, this batch leans into warm greys and soft taupe stone patterns rather than stark white or black, which pairs more easily with the timber flooring common in Sydney apartments built over the last decade.

Tempered glass and mirrored finishes

Passage, Cipher, Orbit and Echo all use tempered glass tops, and it's worth knowing what that actually means before you rule glass out as "impractical." Tempered glass is heat-treated so the surface is under compression, which makes it several times stronger than standard annealed glass and means that if it ever does break, it crumbles into small, relatively blunt pieces rather than long sharp shards — the same safety glass used in shower screens and glass shelving. For a coffee table in a home with kids or a boisterous dog, that safety margin matters more than the material's reputation for fragility suggests.

The visual advantage is obvious: glass and mirror-finish tables read as lighter and take up less visual space than a solid timber or stone equivalent, which is exactly why the Orbit range — glass tops on a mirrored undershelf — has become one of our most-asked-about new arrivals for smaller living rooms. It bounces light around a room instead of anchoring it, which is the opposite problem to the one sintered stone solves. If your living room already feels crowded, glass is almost always the safer starting point; if you need a table that can take genuine daily wear without babying it, sintered stone earns its extra weight.

New sofa sets: Aria, Belmont and Lawson

The three new sofa sets are aimed at slightly different rooms. Aria is the most tailored of the three, with a firmer, boxier cushion profile that holds its shape well in a formal or open-plan living area. Belmont is the deepest seat of the group, built for the household that actually lives on the sofa rather than around it — good for a media room or a family living space where people are stretching out rather than sitting upright. Lawson sits in between, with a slightly lower arm height that suits smaller rooms where a tall sofa arm can make the whole piece feel oversized.

All three are available in the fabric and velvet options we stock across the New Arrivals collection, and each pairs comfortably with either the glass or stone tables above — the general rule holds that a lighter glass table balances a deep, heavy sofa like Belmont, while a stone-top table can carry more visual weight next to a slimmer frame like Lawson without the room feeling top-heavy on one side.

Seeing the new arrivals in person

Photos only tell you so much about scale, weight and how a mirrored undershelf actually catches light in a real room, so if any of these ranges catch your eye, it's worth seeing them on the showroom floor. The full new arrivals range is on display at both our Lidcombe showroom and our Marsden Park showroom, where our team can walk you through the material trade-offs above with the actual pieces in front of you rather than a product photo. Marsden Park currently has the broader run of the Vista and Totem stone tables on the floor, while Lidcombe is carrying the full Orbit and Echo glass ranges alongside the new sofa sets.

You can browse the complete drop online any time through our New Arrivals collection, or go straight to the coffee tables or console tables if you already know which piece you're shopping for. New stock keeps moving through both collections week to week, so if something here catches your eye, it's worth checking availability rather than waiting.
